Is there nowhere in the VPN client that pushes DNS settings, once connected, to prioritize the proper/desired DNS? I'm not familiar with SonicWall and their VPN implementations. Local (or in this case remote) queries from the DC may not happen. I did this on my office network (had 8.8.8.8 as my secondary DNS) and (even though it was secondary) my systems wouldn't query DC DNS.
